Orckai vs Fin: A Support Agent and a Platform Are Not the Same Purchase
Fin is a focused, well-built AI support agent inside Intercom. Orckai is a platform where customer chat is one capability among several. The useful question is not which is better, but how much of your AI need actually sits inside the support inbox.
The Verdict
Fin is a very good AI support agent, built into a very good support suite. If your problem is “too many tickets, most of them answerable from the help centre,” and your team already lives in Intercom, Fin is the shorter path and you should probably take it. Orckai is a broader platform: the same customer-facing chat, plus agents that query your live systems, back-office workflows, multiple use cases beyond support, per-resolution costs you control, and a self-hosted option.
They are aimed at different problems
Fin, Intercom's AI agent, is a product with a sharp definition: resolve customer support conversations automatically, using your help centre content and connected sources, inside the support workflow your team already uses. Everything about it — the reporting, the pricing model, the handover to human agents — follows from that definition, and the focus is a genuine strength.
Orckai is an AI orchestration platform. Customer-facing chat is one thing it does, through an embeddable widget with a knowledge base behind it. But the platform also runs scheduled and event-triggered workflows, builds internal agents, and generates permissioned connections so agents can read from ERP, CRM, and billing systems rather than only from articles.
So this is not a like-for-like contest. It is a scope decision, and the honest framing is: how much of your AI need sits inside the support inbox?
| Capability | Orckai | Fin (Intercom) |
|---|---|---|
| Primary purpose | AI orchestration across the business | Automated customer support resolution |
| Customer-facing chat | Embeddable widget, one script tag | Messenger, mature and polished |
| Answers from documents | 50+ file types, inline citations | Help centre, PDFs, public URLs |
| Answers from live systems | Generated MCP tools over databases and APIs | Actions and integrations you configure |
| Human handover | Live takeover from conversation viewer | Native, into the Intercom Inbox |
| Helpdesk features | Not a helpdesk | Full suite — inbox, SLAs, routing |
| Back-office automation | Cron, webhook, file-drop workflows | Outside its scope |
| Internal / non-support agents | Any use case, any department | Support-shaped |
| Pricing model | Flat subscription plus included AI credits | Per resolution — scales with volume |
| Self-hosting | Docker Compose on your infrastructure | Vendor cloud only |
| Time to first answer | Hours — upload, configure, embed | Fast if you are already on Intercom |
What Fin does well, plainly
Fin is one of the better-executed AI support products, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. Three things stand out.
- The handover is native. When the AI cannot resolve something, the conversation lands in the same inbox your agents already work in, with full history and no integration seam. Most competitors approximate this; Intercom does not have to.
- The reporting speaks the language of support leaders. Resolution rate, deflection, CSAT on AI-handled conversations — the metrics a head of support is measured on, already assembled.
- Setup is genuinely quick if your content is already in the Intercom help centre. Point it at your articles and it works.
Its pricing model, publicly listed at the time of writing as a per-resolution charge, is also refreshingly honest: you pay when it works. Whether that is good value depends entirely on your volume, and it is worth doing the arithmetic before you assume either way.
Do the volume maths early. Per-resolution pricing is attractive at 200 conversations a month and a different conversation at 20,000. Multiply your realistic monthly resolvable volume by the per-resolution rate, then compare it against a flat subscription. Neither model is universally cheaper — but the crossover point is usually lower than teams expect, and it moves against you exactly as the product succeeds.
Where Orckai is a better fit
When the answer lives in a system, not an article
“What is your refund policy?” comes from a document. “Where is my order, and why was I charged twice?” comes from a database. The second class of question is where deflection rates stall, because no amount of help-centre content answers it. Orckai generates permissioned MCP servers over PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MariaDB, and REST APIs, so an agent can look up the actual order — scoped to the signed-in customer, read-only, and logged. See AI agents for databases for the design.
When AI is needed beyond support
Most organisations that adopt an AI support agent discover within a quarter that finance wants invoice triage, operations wants a morning exception report, and HR wants a policy assistant. A support product will not serve those, and buying a second platform for each is how you end up with five AI vendors. Orckai's workflow engine covers scheduled jobs, file-drop processing, and webhook-triggered automation alongside the customer-facing chat.
When the data cannot leave your network
Regulated industries and public-sector buyers frequently cannot send customer conversations to a vendor cloud. Orckai deploys on your own infrastructure with Docker Compose — the same platform, inside your perimeter. The self-hosting guide covers what that involves.
When you want cost to be predictable
Orckai is a flat subscription with AI credits included on every plan — 500 on the free trial, 5,000 on Starter, 20,000 on Professional. You can also connect your own LLM key at any point and pay your provider directly at their rates. Either way, cost does not rise per successful answer, which changes the incentive when you are trying to increase automation.
Choosing
Choose Fin when
- You already run Intercom — the integration advantage is real and difficult to match
- Support deflection is the whole project, with no near-term plans beyond it
- Your questions are answerable from content you already maintain in a help centre
- You want support-native reporting without assembling it yourself
- Vendor cloud is acceptable and volumes make per-resolution pricing work
Choose Orckai when
- Answers require live account data, not just documentation
- AI is needed across departments, not only in the support inbox
- You are not on Intercom and do not intend to move your helpdesk
- Self-hosting or data residency is a requirement
- Predictable cost matters more than pay-per-outcome, especially at volume
- You want one platform for chat, internal agents, and back-office automation

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Orckai a replacement for Intercom?
No. Intercom is a customer communications suite with an inbox, ticketing, routing, and SLAs; Orckai is not a helpdesk and does not try to be. Orckai can replace or complement the AI answering layer — particularly where answers need live system data — while your helpdesk stays where it is.
Can Orckai answer questions about a specific customer’s account?
Yes. Orckai generates permissioned MCP servers over PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MariaDB, and REST APIs, so an agent can look up an order, invoice, or subscription. Access is read-only by default, scoped by the authenticated session rather than by prompt instructions, and every call is logged.
How does pricing compare with Fin?
They are structurally different. Fin is publicly listed as charging per resolution at the time of writing, so cost tracks success volume. Orckai is a flat subscription — $999/month Starter, $1,999/month Professional — with AI credits included, and you can switch to your own LLM key at any time. Which is cheaper depends on your volume; work out your monthly resolvable conversations and compare directly.
Does Orckai hand conversations to a human?
Yes. The widget supports live takeover: a team member can step into an ongoing conversation from the admin conversation viewer, with full history and visitor context. It is a takeover model rather than a full ticketing inbox, so teams that need SLAs and routing generally keep their helpdesk alongside it.
Can Orckai run on our own infrastructure?
Yes, with Docker Compose — the full stack, including the database, cache, and object storage, inside your own network. This is usually the deciding factor for regulated industries and public-sector buyers, where sending customer conversations to a vendor cloud is not permitted.
We already use Intercom. Is there a reason to look at Orckai?
Only if your needs run past support. If deflection is the whole project and your content answers the questions, staying with Fin is the sensible call. The case for looking further is when answers require live system data, or when other departments start asking for the same capability.
